Who are we?

Son de Mexico is a Mexican folkloric dance group based in Melbourne, Australia, that provides high-quality performances and dance instruction to the local community. We specialise in traditional Mexican dances, such as the Jarabe Tapatío and the Son de la Negra, and also incorporate modern choreography. 

Our Mission

Our dance group, Son de Mexico, is dedicated to promoting and spreading the culture and traditions of Mexico through folk dance. We aim to encourage learning, respect, and appreciation of our cultural roots while providing entertainment and excitement to our audience.

Our History

The dance group, based in Melbourne Australia, was founded in 2023 by Itzel and Carlos. Both are passionate about Mexican folk dance and have years of experience in the field. Itzel has been dancing for 10 years, while Carlos has been dancing for 5 years. They saw a need for a group that could bring Mexican folk dance to a wider audience in Australia and decided to start their own dance group. They wanted to share their love for Mexican culture and dance with the world, and bring people together through the art of Mexican folk dance.
